KIDS FLAG FOOTBALL RULES

 GAMEPLAY:

·         Game is played 6 v 6

·         The offense midfield, the team has 3 plays to score.  If the offense fails to cross midfield or fails to score, the ball changes possession and the new offensive team takes over at their own 5 yard line.

·         All possession changes start at the 5 yard line with the exception of interceptions.  Interceptions may be returned.

·         There are NO fumbles.  Ball is dead where it hits the ground. 

GAME TIME/CLOCK STOP:

·         Games consist of two (2) twenty-five (25) minute running time halves.

·         Each team has 2 – (30) THIRTY SECOND timeouts PER GAME.

·         If the game is tied after regulations play, the score will remain a tie.  There will be NO extra time added to the game.

·         THE CLOCK WILL NOT STOP AT THE 2 MINUTE MARK. 

OFFENSE:

·         1 OFFENSIVE COACH IS ALLOWED ON THE FIELD IN THE HUDDLE

.·         The ball MUST start on the ground.  Once the ball is lifted from the ground, the ball is in play.

·         The Quarterback can be under the center or in the shotgun. 

RUNNING:

·         The Quarterback CANNOT run with the ball beyond the line of scrimmage.

·         Only direct handoffs behind the line of scrimmage are permitted.  There are NO pitches or laterals.

·         The offense may use multiple handoffs behind the line of scrimmage ONLY.

·         “NO RUNNING ZONES” are located 5 yards from the end zone and 5 yards from midfield

.·         The player who takes the handoff can throw the ball.

·         There are NO “stiff arms” or flag guarding permitted.  Shirts MUST be tucked in at all times and belts MUST be to the sides of the players.

·         THERE IS NO DIVING. 

 RECEIVING:

·         All players are eligible to catch a pass (including the quarterback) assuming the ball has been handed off behind the line of scrimmage.

·         Receiver must have at least 1 foot inbounds when making a reception.

·         ONLY 1 receiver is allowed in motion before the snap.  The ball must start on the ground and there are NO touch and go’s

 PASSING:

·         All passes must cross the line of scrimmage. 

 ·         The quarterback has (7) seven seconds to throw the ball.  If the quarterback takes longer than 7 seconds, play is dead with a loss of down.

·         Once the ball is handed off, the “seven second clock” no longer applies.

 DEFENSE:

·         1 defensive coach is allowed on the field, but MUST leave the field when the offense breaks the huddle before the ball is snapped.

·         The referee will mark a “blitz line” 7 yards from the line of scrimmage.  All players who start behind the blitz line are eligible to rush the passer. 

 ·         If a team is up by 6 points, they will NOT be allowed to rush the passer until the score is justified.

·         Once the ball has been handed off, the blitz line no longer applies and all defensive players are allowed to cross the line of scrimmage

.·         There are NO fumbles.  Ball is dead when it hits the ground.  You are NOT allowed to strip the ball. 

SCORING:

·         TOUCHDOWN = 2 POINTS

·         EXTRA POINT   = 1 POINT

·         SAFETY              = 1 POINT

·         After a 1 point safety, the offensive team gets the ball at midfield and has 3 plays in which to score.

·         Once a team is up by 6 points, they MUST play a man down and they cannot rush the passer until the score is justified.

·         Interceptions:  The team getting the interception has 3 plays from midfield in which to score.  If the defense intercepts the pass on a conversion attempt and returns it all the way for a score, the defense will be awarded 1 point.

·         If the defense intercepts the pass on a regular play and returns it all the way for a score, the defense will be awarded 2 points for the touchdown. 

PENALTIES:

 ·         All penalties are 5 yards.

·         If a penalty occurs, the opposing team has the option to decline the penalty and take the result of the play or accept the penalty and replay the down.

·         Cheap play WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  It will be at the referee’s discretion.

·         Offensive penalties will be:  offside, illegal motion, illegal forward pass, pass interference.  These penalties are marked off from the line of scrimmage.

·         Offensive penalties:  flag guarding and blocking or shielding will be marked off from the spot in which they occur.

·         Defensive penalties:  offside and illegal rushing will be marked off from the line of scrimmage.

·         Defensive penalties:  holding, pass interfere and illegal flag pulling will be marked off from the spot they occur. 

ANYONE SWEARING OR SPITTING WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.  NEITHER WILL BE TOLERATED BY COACHES OR PLAYERS.
